a short passage from Chapter 2 of Into The Dust

Into the dust
Chapter 2
~
Sunset and Picadilly

I opened my eyes to a blurry morning. I shivered under my cold blankets that was balled up on my bodice. My eyes burned after long hours of tears and sleep and my tank top reeked of salty, damp sweat. I shifted sides on the bed and blinked back tears that creeped between the slit of my eyelids. I mustered all the energy to get on my feet and get freshened up.

It didn't occur to me that Jason Black would go to great lengths to get rid of Nanna. I still remember the last words that managed to come out of her mouth, "Don't hold grudge, my dea-" And I watched her eyelids flutter in confusion and I could almost feel the pain piercing through her veins when her soul was taken. I tried to sweep that thought away from my memory and sent a message to Brett : MOVIES TDY PLS

I dragged my feet along the cracked wood that is the ground with my Doc Martens, Capri shorts, a white T-shirt 3 sizes larger and a beanie on. I twisted the doorknob with weakness and invited Brett in.
"You gotta lose the dog hat, gurl." I sighed heavily and threatened him with my beanie. I patted on the seat next to me on our shaggy couch and rested my head on his broad shoulder when he finally laid his butt on the couch.
"So tell me more about your magic powers, Olathe."
"I'm not sure if you can classify it under 'magic powers' because each of us with a different type of blood , which is Q, have different powers. For example, I can only get injured and not feel pain and heal, but my Nanna can make things disappear temporarily. You got it? Everyone of us Quinevers have waifs of our own. It's kinda like a contract. You bargain with a with spirit for it to belong to you, and you lend him a vow. As simple as that."
"What do you need a waif for?"
"It teaches you all you need to know about your type of magic - my type of magic.
